Eastern Screech-Owl

Students at Sullivan West recently participated in a photo contest,
with publication in Warblings as the grand prize. Dozens of
entries were submitted from grades 4, 5, and 6, giving judges the difficult
task of narrowing the field. Consideration was given to shots featuring
mammals and birds alike, and it was rewarding to see how many enthusiastic
students were patient enough to try to capture the perfect image on
film.
After much deliberation, six finalists were selected: fourth grader Billy
Engle took a picture of a Ruffed Grouse in Callicoon, sixth
grade student Amanda Magilton submitted a photo
of a Great Blue Heron in Narrowsburg, ten-year-old Erin Hankins captured
an Eastern Screech-Owl on camera in Kenoza Lake, and fifth grader Colleen
Grisafe snapped a trio of Wild Turkeys in western Sullivan
County. Long Eddy's ten-year-old Cole Sensiba submitted
a pair of sparrows perched upon a street sign, and Jeffersonville's Sean
Hart took a photo of a silhouette of Mourning Doves.

These submissions were sent in to the Sullivan County Audubon Society,
and winning photos are published in summer issue of Warblings.
Congratulations to all participants and winners!
